Correct Installation Procedure for Front Lower Ball Joint
This technical service bulletin provides guidelines for the correct installation of the front lower ball joint for 2007-2012 Dodge Caliber and 2007-2016 Jeep Compass and Patriot.
Important Notes
Before installation, ensure all mating surfaces are clear of rust, debris, and burrs. Inspect control arm mounting flange for cracks, deformation, and out-of-round condition.
If a broken, bent, or loose ball joint stud is discovered, the steering knuckle must be replaced.
When pressing in the ball joint, apply pressure to the mounting flange, not the ball joint lamination.
Tighten the ball joint retention nut to 184 LB-FT/ZSON-M.
Do not overtighten the pinch bolt and nut, as this may cause damage to the knuckle ear.
