Important Installation Procedure
This technical service bulletin provides a correct installation procedure for the front lower ball joint on 2007-2012 Dodge Caliber and 2007-2016 Jeep Compass and Patriot.
Pre-Installation Checks
Ensure all mating surfaces are clear of rust, debris, and burrs. Inspect control arm mounting flange for cracks, deformation, and out-of-round condition.
Check press-in diameters and stud tolerances. Replace all damaged or out-of-specification mating components.
Installation
When pressing in the ball joint, ensure pressure is applied to the mounting flange and not the ball joint lamination.
Tighten the ball joint retention nut to 184 LB-FT/Z5ON-M.
Do not overtighten the pinch bolt and nut, as this may cause damage to the knuckle ear.
