Datasheet Overview
The HCC4538B and HCF4538B are dual precision monostable multivibrators designed for stable retriggerable/resettable one-shot operation, constructed for a range of timing applications that depend on a fixed voltage. This document provides essential information including features, pin connections, functionalities, and specifications of the integrated circuit.
Key Features
The devices offer retriggerable/resettable capability with independent trigger and reset propagation delays that do not rely on external resistor (Rx) and capacitor (Cx) values. Triggering can be initiated from both leading or trailing edges. Outputs from the Q and Q terminals are buffered, and separate resets are included. The devices support a wide range of output-pulse widths and come with Schmitt trigger inputs to accept unlimited rise and fall times on +TR and TR inputs. These multivibrators meet the requirements of JEDEC standard 13A for B series CMOS devices.
Device Information and Packaging
Dual monostable multivibrators are available in both plastic and ceramic packages and plastic micropackages, with different order codes for each packaging type: HCC4538BF, HCF4538BM1, HCF4538BEY, and HCF4538BC1.
Functional Operation and Pin Configuration
For precise control of the output pulse widths, external Rx and Cx are used. The HCC/HCF4538B provides a RESET function for immediate output pulse termination or to avoid pulses upon power on. Unused inputs should be tied to VDD or VSS as required. The devices can operate in either retriggerable or non-retriggerable mode, with easy calculation for the timing period (T).
Absolute Maximum Ratings & Recommended Operating Conditions
Maximum ratings define the conditions under which the device can function without permanent damage; however, continuous exposure might impact reliability. HCC types range from -55 to +125°C, while HCF types from -40 to +85°C for operational temperatures, with input voltages restricted to -0.5 to +20V or -0.5 to +18V depending on the device type. Recommending operating conditions specify ranges of supply voltage, input voltage, and operating temperatures to ensure optimal performance.
Application Note
These multivibrators are ideal for time delay applications in various industries and can be integrated into a diverse set of electronic circuits requiring precise timing functionalities.
