Introduction

The VPAP IV and VPAP IV ST are designed to provide non-invasive ventilation for patients with respiratory insufficiency or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in the hospital or home.

Contraindications and Adverse Effects

Positive airway pressure therapy may be contraindicated in patients with severe bullous lung disease, pneumothorax, or pneumomediastinum. Patients should report unusual chest pain, severe headache, or increased breathlessness to their prescribing physician.

The VPAP System

The VPAP IV and VPAP IV ST systems comprise the VPAP device, 2m air tubing, power cord, travel bag, ResScan Data Card, and ResMed Oxygen Connector Port. Optional components include 3m air tubing and DC/DC Converter.

Masks and Humidifier

Recommended masks for use with these devices include Mirage Vista, Ultra Mirage, and Mirage Swift nasal masks. The H4i heated humidifier is recommended for use with these VPAP devices to alleviate dryness of the nose, throat, or mouth.

Supplemental Oxygen

The VPAP IV and VPAP IV ST are designed to be compatible with up to 15 L/min of supplemental oxygen. Always use the ResMed Oxygen Connector Port when adding supplemental oxygen at the flow generator outlet.
