Introduction

The Angio-SealTM vascular closure device (AVCD) is designed to close the arteriotomy site following percutaneous coronary intervention. It consists of an intravascular anchor and an extravascular bovine collagen component maintained together using a suture mechanism.

Device Absorption and Vascular Healing

In vivo intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and histology analysis demonstrated that the intravascular component of the AVCD remains stable for the first two weeks after implantation, then undergoes rapid absorption between 14 and 30 days, with almost complete absorption by 42 days. The device absorption is accompanied by positive vascular remodeling, with minimal degree of mononuclear cell infiltration surrounding the extravascular component, which progressively decreases over time.

Conclusion

The study demonstrates the in vivo dynamics of device absorption and vascular remodeling occurring after AVCD implantation over different time points, providing insights into the device’s absorption characteristics and its potential impact on vascular healing.
