Replacement Equipment Notification
The University of North Carolina Medical Center (UNCH) is seeking confirmation that the acquisition of a new CT scanner is exempt from Certificate of Need (CON) review.
Reason for Exemption
The new CT scanner, a Siemens Somatom Xcite, meets the exemption criteria as it is a replacement equipment, located on the main campus, and costs less than $3 million to acquire and install.
Equipment Details
The existing equipment being replaced is a Siemens Somatom Sensation 64 CT scanner, which will be sold or otherwise disposed of when replaced.
Process for Disposition of Equipment
Siemens will de-install and take possession of the existing equipment as part of the proposal to acquire the new CT scanner.
The University understands that this project is exempt from CON review and requests written confirmation that the proposed replacement of the equipment, including installation and renovation costs, are exempt from CON review.
