Remember to be patient, as the muscles become weaker when on the ventilator, and weaning can take a long time. It is also important to be a learner, be organized, and be proud of being a caregiver.
Understanding Ventilator Settings
Inspiratory Pressure (PIP), Respiratory Rate (RR), Tidal Volume (Vte), and Minute Ventilation (Ve) are important settings to understand. PIP is the amount of force it takes to deliver a breath, RR is how fast your child is breathing, and Vte is the amount of volume exhaled each breath.
Common Alarms and Troubleshooting
Some common alarms include temperature probe dislodgment, low inspiratory pressure, respiratory rate, and minute ventilation. Troubleshooting involves reconnecting the temperature probe, checking for leaks, and adjusting settings as needed.
