The SOLID TANTALUM ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS nichicon Low ESR F91 series is a set of resin-molded chip capacitors designed for surface mounting on high-frequency circuit boards. These capacitors comply with the RoHS directive (2002/95/EC) which restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic equipment.
Performance Characteristics and Specifications
Temperature Range: These capacitors can operate within a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C, with a rated temperature of +85°C.
Capacitance Tolerance: The tolerance of the capacitance value is ±20% or ±10% at 120Hz.
Dissipation Factor and ESR: Dissipation factors are detailed within a reference table, and equivalent series resistance (ESR) is provided at 100kHz for various capacitors.
Leakage Current
At 20°C:
After one minute’s application of rated voltage, the leakage current is not more than 0.01CV or 5μA, whichever is greater.
At 85°C:
After one minute’s application of rated voltage, the leakage current is not more than 0.1CV or 5μA, whichever is greater.
At 125°C:
After one minute’s application of derated voltage, the leakage current is not more than 1.25CV or 3μA, whichever is greater.
Capacitance Change by Temperature and Testing Conditions
Capacitance change due to temperature fluctuations is within ±15% at 125°C and ±10% at +85°C. Tests conducted include damp heat testing with no voltage applied for 500 hours, temperature cycle testing, and immersion in solder at 260°C for 10 seconds.
Endurance and Reliability Testing
There are various endurance tests such as:
- Surge test: After 1000 cycles at 85°C, capacitors should meet characteristic requirements.
- Endurance test: After 2000 hours at 85°C with rated voltage applied, capacitors should meet characteristic requirements. Additional endurance testing is specified at 125°C.
- Shear test: Where a pressure load is applied horizontally after the capacitor is soldered onto a substrate, no exfoliation or sign of damage should appear at the terminal electrode.
Marking and Physical Dimensions
The capacitors are marked with information such as case code, rated voltage, rated capacitance, leakage current, dissipation factor, ESR, and part number. Specific case sizes like 3520.2, 2410.1, and others are noted with corresponding tolerances.
Standard Ratings and Part Numbering
A list of standard ratings for the capacitors is provided with values ranging from 6.3V to 100V and capacitance values from 47μF to 680μF. The part numbering system is exemplified with the base code “CAL8IO0B: where the 9th digit indicates ±10% capacitance tolerance.
