Overview
The F93 Standard Series of solid tantalum electrolytic capacitors are resin-molded chips compliant with the RoHS directive (2002/95/EC). They are designed for use across a wide temperature range and feature standardized grades in different capacitances and rated voltages.
Performance Characteristics
The capacitors operate in a temperature range from -55°C to +125°C, with a rated temperature of 85°C. Capacitance tolerance is specified at ±20%, or ≤10% depending on the conditions measured at 120Hz. Dissipation factors and Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) are detailed on the following page of the datasheet. Leakage current is constrained to 0.01CV or 5µA after a minute’s application of rated voltage at 20°C, whichever is greater. At 85°C, the current specification becomes 0.1CV or 5µA. Additional specifications and tolerances are provided for scenarios involving damp heat, temperature cycles, and soldering heat.
Durability and Reliability Tests
Under various stress tests such as damp heat, temperature cycles, and applied voltage, the capacitors must meet the initial specified values for capacitance change, dissipation factor, and leakage current. During endurance testing, at both 85°C and 125°C, the products are expected to maintain their performance characteristics in line with the table mentioned further in the datasheet.
Mechanical Tests
Mechanical reliability is tested through procedures like the Shear Test and Terminal Strength Test. In the Shear Test, the capacitor must withstand the application of a specified pressure force without exfoliation or any sign of failure at its terminals. And, the Terminal Strength test makes sure that there are no significant abnormalities after bending the substrate with the capacitor mounted.
Rated Voltage and Capacitance
The datasheet outlines various combinations of capacitance values and rated voltages, including an example where a capacitance of 10µF at a rated voltage of 10V is depicted. Important to note is the caution regarding surge and derated voltage at 125°C, with specific details referenced on another page.
Availability
Nichicon offers support for compliance with AEC-Q200 standards and advises contacting the local sales office for design-in assistance. The datasheet also reveals that certain series are under development, encouraging communication with Nichicon sales offices for their integration.
Standard Ratings
Standard ratings are available for these capacitors, with a code system table identified for easy reference by engineers and buyers. For instance, a capacitor with a code ‘6.8’ represents a specific standard capacitance value in microfarads (µF).
