Product Overview
The SOLID TANTALUM ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS F91 Series from Nichicon are resin-molded chip capacitors designed for surface mount applications and offer low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) suitable for high-frequency usage. They are compliant with the RoHS directive, ensuring restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
Performance Characteristics
The capacitors operate within a broad temperature range of -55°C to +125°C, with the rated temperature being +85°C. They display a capacitance tolerance of ±20%, ±10% at 120Hz, and their Dissipation Factor and ESR at 100kHz are delineated in a detailed table. Leakage currents after application of the rated voltage are strictly controlled across various temperatures to not exceed specified values. Regarding capacitance, these components can experience a maximum change of ±15% after exposure to temperature extremities.
Environmental and Mechanical Tests
Several tests are outlined to ensure reliability and durability under different conditions:
Damp Heat Testing gauges performance after 500 hours, with no voltage applied, in environments with up to 95% humidity, and ensures capacitance change remains within 10% of its initial value.
Temperature Cycling tests the robustness of the capacitors in shifting temperatures, with the objective that capacitance should not vary beyond ±15%.
Soldering Heat Resistance examination involves a 10-second reflow at 260°C, confirming that the capacitor maintains its initial rated characteristics after the process.
Surge Testing is used to assess the capability to withstand surge voltage when applied through a specific resistor network at different operating temperatures.
Endurance Testing exposes the capacitors to rated and derated voltages for prolonged periods, after which they should still meet the initial specified requirements.
Mechanical Strength
To test mechanical integrity, a Shear Test and Terminal Strength Test are performed. The shear test applies pressure horizontally to the side of the soldered capacitor body, checking for detachment or damage at the terminal electrodes. The terminal strength test inverts a surface-mounted capacitor on a substrate; applying specified pressure must not result in any significant abnormalities.
Product Identification
Each capacitor is marked with a unique code for proper identification, detailing capacitance, rated voltage, and other key specifications. The product numbering system encodes the capacitance tolerance — in cases where the tolerance is ±10%, a specific notation is added to the type number.
Standard Ratings
A comprehensive list of standard ratings follows, providing details of various models within the F91 series. Each model is specified with its respective rated capacitance, voltage, ESR, case code, and part number, catering to a wide range of application needs.
