Introduction

The S-812C Series voltage regulator ICs, designed by SII Semiconductor Corporation, are positioned for high-withstand voltage applications, leveraging CMOS technology. These ICs are particularly adept for usage in portable devices where efficient power consumption is essential and can handle operation voltages up to 16 V.

Key Features

The S-812C offers a user-selectable output voltage that ranges from 2.0 V to 6.0 V, tuned in 0.1 V increments, with an output voltage accuracy of ±2.0%. Despite the high input voltage threshold, the dropout voltage is notably low at 120 mV for a 5.0 V output with a 10 mA load. Operationally, it boasts an exceptionally low current consumption—1.0 μA typically, making it suitable for energy-sensitive applications. Concerning the load-capacity, it’s capable of delivering an output current of up to 50 mA for a 3.0 V product with a 5 V input and up to 75 mA for a 5.0 V output with a 7 V input.

Regulatory Features

Users can select whether to include or exclude the power-off function as per their power management needs. Furthermore, two options are provided for the activation of the regulator: active “H” or active “L”. SII’s S-812C Series ICs also integrate short-circuit protection with a typical short-circuit current of 40 mA, enhancing device safety and reliability. Moreover, it ensures stable operation across a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +85°C, broadening the scope of suitable applications.

Circuit Design

The provision of an internal phase compensation circuit promotes stable operation, which allows the use of a ceramic capacitor as the output capacitor. Built-in circuitry includes an ON/OFF control circuit and a short-circuit protection mechanism.
