Overview of Panasonic HC Relays
Panasonic HC Relays are miniature relays designed for a broad range of applications, encompassing an extended mechanical lifespan of minimum 108 operations for DC types. These relays come with multiple contact arrangements including 4 Form C (5 A 250 V AC), 3 Form C, 2 Form C, and 1 Form C (10 A 250 V AC), making them suitable for both low and high-level loads from 100µA to 10A. They are also available in amber sealed and bifurcated contact options.
Specifications
The HC Relays have initial contact resistance of max. 30 mΩ and offer nominal switching capacities ranging from 5 A to 10 A at 250 V AC. Their maximum switching power goes up to 2,500 VA with a maximum switching voltage of 250 V AC (resistive) and minimum switching capacity as low as 1 mA at 1 V DC. Coil nominal operating power varies between AC and DC types, with AC using 1.2 to 1.3 VA and DC using 0.9 to 1.1 W.
Performance Characteristics
Operating at a maximum of 20 cycles per minute (cpm) at max rating, these relays have an initial insulation resistance of minimum 109 MΩ at 500 V DC. The breakdown voltage is 700 Vrms minimum between contacts and 2,000 Vrms minimum between contact and coil. The operate and release times are a maximum of 20 ms at nominal voltage, with a temperature rise capped at 80°C at nominal voltage.
HC Relays offer functional shock resistance of minimum 196 m/s2 (20 G) and can withstand a destructive shock of minimum 980 m/s2 (100 G). In terms of vibration resistance, they can handle 10 to 55 Hz at double amplitude of 1.5 mm functionally and destructively. They operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to +70°C and maintain a functional humidity level between 5 to 85% R.H. The weight of a single unit is approximately 30g.
When considering life expectancy, the electrical life at 20 cpm with a resistive load is up to 108 for 250 V AC at 10 A and up to 5×107 for AC type operations. Mechanical life is measured at 180 cpm.
Typical Applications
Applications include transportation systems, power station control, operated machines including amusement devices, refrigerators, building control equipment, office machines, medical equipment, and coin-operated machines.
Ordering Information
Relays can be customized based on contact arrangement, terminal arrangement, and coil voltage. Options for contact material include gold-flashed silver alloy, and silver nickel, with variations like bifurcated contact type available for specificity in selection.
Coil Data
Coil data provided on the first two pages pertains to both AC and DC type coils, including ranges for coil voltage, pick-up and drop-out voltage, as well as nominal coil current and associated operating power.
The information is enriched with a note on certifications and standards variance like VDE, UL, and CSA, and provides practical guidance for using relays with different voltages.
