Overview

The ODD series by Positronic Industries features professional, industrial-quality, high-density D-Subminiature connectors designed for use in indoor environments that are sheltered and non-corrosive. The connectors are ideal for applications requiring normal ventilation, such as telecommunication and electronic assembling. These connectors are built to be compatible with other high-density D-subminiature connectors conforming to MIL-DTL-24308 standards, and are UL and CSA recognized.

Contact and Insulator Characteristics

The connectors offer precision-machined, removable contacts with closed barrel crimp terminations suitable for wire sizes ranging from 22 AWG to 30 AWG. The contacts are also available with solder cup wire terminations for printed board mount applications, offering both straight solder and right angle (90°) solder termination options. The insulators used are glass-filled polyester per ASTM D5927 with a UL 94V-0 black color rating, supporting up to 22 AWG wire size.

Contact Plating and Shell Construction

Contacts feature a professional quality gold flash over nickel plating with alternative finishes available upon request. The male shells can be dimpled for EMI/ESD grounding and are available in various materials, including steel with tin or zinc plating, stainless steel passivated shells, and others on request.

Mounting, Polarization, and Locking Features

The ODD series offers trapezoidally-shaped shells for polarization and a variety of mounting options, such as jackscrews, angle brackets, and vibration lock systems crafted from materials like nylon, copper alloy, steel, and stainless steel. Fastener options include phosphor bronze or beryllium copper with tin plating, while different locking systems like slide lock and lock tabs ensure secure connections.

Electrical Characteristics

Contacts are rated at 5 amperes nominal for open entry, with varying amperage capacities depending on the number of contacts energized. For closed entry contacts, ratings are tested per UL 1977. The ODD series features an initial contact resistance of 0.010 ohms maximum for open entry contacts and 0.005 ohms maximum for closed entry contacts. These connectors have a proof voltage of 1000 Vrms, insulator resistance of 5 G ohms, and a working voltage of 300 Vrms.

Mechanical and Climatic Characteristics

Removable contacts can be inserted to the rear face of the insulator and released likewise. The ODD series promises a mechanical operation of minimum 500 operations for open entry female contacts and 1000 operations for PosiBand closed entry female contacts. The temperature range supported is from -55°C to +125°C, with the ability to withstand damp heat, steady state, for up to 10 days. The connectors are specified with comprehensive clearance and creepage distance requirements to guarantee safety and performance under various conditions. Notably, all dimensions specified in the datasheet are subject to change, highlighting the need for users to confirm before application.
