This handbook provides guidance on the Standard Microcircuit Drawing Program (SMDP) under the DoD Parts Management Program (PMP). It aims to eliminate the need for multiple contractor-prepared drawings for the same device by establishing a standardized drawing system.
Scope and Purpose
The SMDP is implemented by MIL-HDBK-512 and screens candidate parts for the SMDP through the DLA Land and Maritime Military Parts Control Advisory Group (MPCAG).
Part or Identifying Number (PIN)
The PIN consists of elements such as drawing number, device type, device class designator, case outline, and lead finish. One part one part number SMDs may cover custom device products, and a single alpha character is used to differentiate between standard and custom products.
Device class designators are used to establish a one part number system covering all three major military microcircuit requirements documents, allowing OEMs to acquire to the highest level available for a given generic device.
