Description
The ZA Series is a range of Metal-Oxide Varistors (MOVs) designed to protect low and medium-voltage circuits from transient voltage surges. These radial leaded varistors are particularly useful in applications such as motor control, telecom, solenoid, and power supply circuits. Their role is to safeguard circuit board components and ensure the integrity of data. The ZA Series comes in five different sizes: 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm, and 20mm. They support a wide operating voltage range, with AC voltage ratings from 4V to 460V and DC voltage ratings between 5.5V to 615V.
Agency Approvals
Littelfuse’s ZA Series varistors are approved by several agencies. They are recognized under UL1449 by UL, with the file number E320116, and also hold various international standard certifications, including CECC 42201-006, IEC 61051-1, IEC 61051-2, and IEC 60950-1 (Annex Q), with the agency file number E1273/F. Additionally, these components comply with lead-free, halogen-free, and RoHS directives, ensuring environmentally responsible manufacturing.
Features
The ZA Series varistors offer a wide variety of features that cater to different design and safety requirements. They can be used without derating in environments with ambient temperatures up to 85°C. The series covers a wide range of model sizes suited to various applications and is available in both tape and reel or bulk pack formats. They also come with standard lead form options for flexible integration into circuit designs.
Absolute Maximum Ratings
The absolute maximum ratings define the limits beyond which the device may suffer permanent damage. For the ZA Series, the steady-state applied voltage ratings span from 4V to 460V for AC and from 5.5V to 615V for DC. In terms of transients, they can handle peak pulse currents of 50 to 6500A for an 8/20µs current wave and a single pulse energy range of 0.1 to 52 joules for a 10/1000µs current wave. The operating ambient temperature range is -55°C to +85°C, with a storage temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. The temperature coefficient of clamping voltage is specified to be less than 0.01 %/°C. High pot encapsulation guarantees insulation with a voltage capability of 2500V, and the insulation resistance is rated at 1000MΩ.
Note: These ratings apply to specific model numbers within the ZA Series as described in the Device Ratings and Specifications chart, which is referenced for detailed information. The specified features and ratings emphasize the importance of using the product within the recommended operating conditions to avoid potential damage.
