The HB34, HF34, and HG34 Series are a family of industrial high-energy Metal-Oxide Varistors (MOVs) produced by Littelfuse, designed to protect against transient surges in various environments. These MOVs are suitable for AC mains outdoor and service entrance applications, including use in heavy industrial motors and controls, and in the power supplies of sectors like oil-drilling, mining, transportation, HVAC, and motor/generator settings.
Description
The MOVs serve as transient surge suppressors with the HB34 Series providing rigid terminals tailored for through-hole solder mounting on printed circuit boards, thus allowing for the omission of screw mounting. The HF34 Series retains the rigid through-hole terminals of the HB34 but adds mounting holes for bolt-down mounting and longer terminals for added mounting flexibility. Meanwhile, the HG34 Series features formed feet with mounting holes, designed specifically for vertical bolt-down mounting. This series comes in a wide range of part numbers, which can be found in the Ratings and Specifications table.
Agency Approvals
Littelfuse’s MOV series have been approved by recognized standards, including UL1449 and CSA, ensuring their compliance with specific safety requirements.
Absolute Maximum Ratings
The MOVs have a continuous steady state applied voltage ranging from 110VAC to 750VAC, and a DC voltage range of 148VDC to 970VDC. They can handle transient peak pulse currents of up to 40,000A for an 8/20μs current wave. The single pulse energy range spans from 220J to 1050J for a 2ms current wave. The operating ambient temperature range for these varistors is between -55°C to +85°C, and the storage temperature range is -55°C to +125°C. They also possess a high insolation resistance of 1000MΩ and can withstand a high-pot encapsulation isolation voltage capability of 2500VDC for one minute.
Features
The varistors are noted for being lead-free, halogen-free, and RoHS compliant, indicating their environmental safe-guarding characteristics. They boast a wide operating voltage range and a high energy absorption capability, as well as being capable of handling high peak pulse currents. The rigid terminals ensure secure through-hole solder mounting, and the varistors can operate without derating up to an ambient temperature of 85°C.
