Overview
The L4972A is a stepdown monolithic power switching regulator that delivers 2A at a voltage variable from 5.1 to 40V. It features a high efficiency switching frequency up to 200kHz, internal feed-forward line regulation, precise 5.1V * 2% on-chip reference, and reset and power fail functions.
Key Features
The device is realized with BCD mixed technology, which allows for the integration of isolated vertical DMOS power transistors and mixed CMOS/Bipolar transistors. It includes diagnostic and control functions, making it suitable for microprocessor-based systems.
The L4972A has a soft start function to prevent output overcurrents at turn-on, and an output overload protection circuit that limits the switching frequency to 40kHz in overload conditions. It also features thermal shutdown and an oscillator with feedforward control.
The device is available in PowerDIP20 (16+2+2) and SO20 packages, and requires few external components for efficient operation.
