Overview
The KASxO3xx-SERIES Fairchild Power Switch (FPS) by Fairchild Semiconductor is a series of highly integrated power switch devices designed for high efficiency and minimal external components in off-line switch mode power supplies (SMPS). They feature a combination of a high voltage SenseFET and a current mode PWM controller enabling compact and reliable power supply designs.
Features
The following features are highlighted for the KASxO3xx-SERIES FPS:
– Precision fixed operating frequencies of 100 kHz, 67 kHz, or 50 kHz.
– Low start-up current of typically 100 µA.
– Comprehensive protection features such as pulse by pulse current limiting, over current protection, over voltage protection (minimum of 25V), internal thermal shutdown function, and under voltage lockout (UVLO).
– Internal block diagram showcases components such as the oscillator (OSC), the good logic unit, the internal high voltage Sense FET (SFE), and other elements supporting the power control process.
Advantages
The FPS is presented as a superior solution to using discrete MOSFETs and PWM controllers or resistor-capacitor-controlled (RCC) mechanisms. Its integration leads to reduced parts count, smaller design footprint, and higher system efficiency and reliability. Further advantages include better productivity and adaptability to both flyback and forward converter designs.
Applications
The FPS is suited for various applications that require dependable and efficient power supply solutions. Specifically, it is applicable in the design of SMPS for electronics such as VCRs, SVRs, STBs, DVDs, DVCDs, printers, fax machines, scanners, and camcorder adapters.
Package and Pin Configuration
The KASxO3xx-SERIES is provided in a TO-220F-4L package with the following pin assignment:
1. GND (Ground)
2. Drain
3. VCC (Power Supply)
4. FB (Feedback)
Internal Block Diagram
The datasheet includes an internal block diagram illustrating the main functional components such as the Vcc supply, Drain, 5V reference voltage, internal bias circuitry, Sense FET, thermal shutdown (SID), and overvoltage shutdown (SID), as well as various other components associated with the PWM control and fault protection.
Document Release
The datasheet provided is documented as Revision 1.0.7 and was published by Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation in the year 2003.
