Overview of the K1/K2 Snap-in Rocker Switches
The K series rockers include the K1 and K2 series of sealed, illuminated rocker switches designed for harsh environments. The switches are sealed to IP68S and IP69K standards, providing resistance to wet and dusty conditions. These rockers are suited for various applications such as marine, appliance, heavy equipment, and industrial control systems.
Design Features and Customization
Both K1 and K2 series switches are available in single and double pole configurations (K2 series) with options for illumination. Illuminated models come with a choice of red, green, clear or amber colored lenses. The illumination may be independent, dependent on switch position, or a combination of both, with incandescent, LED, or neon light sources available for selection.
Mounting these switches is straightforward—they snap into a panel from the front, supporting a variety of panel thicknesses with a single cutout size. Custom colors and value-added assemblies with wire leads are available upon request for further customization to meet specific requirements.
Standard Characteristics and Ratings
The switches are robust, handling power levels up to 16 amps or 1/2 HP and suitable for logic level electronic switching applications. They offer versatility in installation and use with snap-in features that accommodate a wide range of panel cutouts. The materials used in the switches make them UV and solvent resistant, and capable of withstanding extreme shock and vibration. Options for custom legends, momentary or maintained action, and an optional panel gasket exist for enhanced versatility and sealing.
Electrical and Mechanical Specifications
The switches are rated for both DC and AC loads with varying cycles of operation, depending on the resistive, inductive, lamp or motor load. Additionally, they offer Direct Voltage Withstanding (DVW) of 1000Vrms and logic level ratings for low current applications. The electrical life expectancy of these switches is benchmarked at 25,000 cycles for most loads and 50,000 cycles for resistive loads at 10A.
For lighting, various voltage and current ratings are supported, and details are provided in specific charts (refer to page 166 or appendix). The mechanical life of the switches reaches 100,000 cycles, and they operate within the temperature range of -30°C to +85°C.
Materials and Assembly
Constructed with thermoplastic for the case, button, and base, and featuring silver alloy with silver plate or gold flash terminals for contact points, ensures reliability. Terminal hardware including screws and lockwashers is provided where applicable, along with recommendations for quick connect terminals for different wire sizes.
