Overview and Features

OPTEK Technology’s Hallogic Hall-Effect Sensors OMH series, including models OMHO9O, OMH3019, OMH302O, OMH304O, OMH3075, and OMH3131 in B and S versions, are designed for high reliability with military and space application suitability. These sensors are ideal for non-contact switching operations, as their technology enables broad functionality in harsh environments. Feature highlights include:

  • Operation over a wide range of supply voltages
  • Excellent temperature stability
  • Through Hole and Surface Mount (SMD) versions with specified lead lengths
  • Ceramic Package offered for both SMD and Through Hole
  • Military screening program adherence patterned after MIL-STD-883 Class B or S
  • Lead finish available as Solder Dipped (Sn 63/37)

Description and Functionality

The OMH series Hall-effect devices incorporate a monolithic circuit which includes a Hall element, a linear amplifier, a threshold amplifier, and a Schmitt trigger. They operate at supply voltages from 4.5 to 24 volts with consistent output across switching frequencies up to over 200 kHz. The built-in band-gap voltage regulator allows stable performance across this voltage range. These sensors are capable of directly driving TTL loads or any standard logic family, and provide up to 21 mA of sink current.

Operating Mechanics

Uni-Polar Hall-effect sensors activate with a south magnetic pole and deactivate at a minimum magnetic field, providing logic level “0” and “1” respectively. Bi-Polar sensors require both magnetic poles for activation and deactivation, catering to brushless DC motors and applications using multiple pole magnets.

Hi-Reliability and Radiation Hardness

The OMH series models B and S have passed radiation hardness testing up to 350 Krad (si) per MIL-STD-883 method 1019.6 and are designed to meet high-reliability demands, featuring lifetime hysteresis characteristics ensuring consistent performance.

Applications

These sensors are versatile in application, suitable for non-contact switching operations, brushless DC motors, multiple pole magnets, non-contact reflective object sensing, assembly line automation, machine automation, machine safety, end-of-travel sensing, and door sensing.

Absolute Maximum Ratings and Specifications

The datasheet specifies detailed absolute maximum ratings for the supply voltage (25 V), storage and operating temperature ranges (-65°C to +150°C for storage and -55°C to +125°C for operating), lead soldering temperature, output ON current (25 mA), and the unlimited output OFF voltage. Sensors come in distinct ‘Operate Point’ and ‘Release Point’ specifications, applicable for both Uni-Polar Non-Latching and Bi-Polar Latching types, each with different min, typ, and max gauss ratings.

OPTEK Technology reserves the right to make changes for improved design and to supply the best product possible, and the dimensions provided in the datasheet are presented in both inches and millimeters for convenience.
