General Description
The Fairchild Semiconductor FAN2558/FAN2559 series are low voltage CMOS Low-Dropout Regulators (LDOs) designed to handle a maximum load current of 180mA. Featuring both fixed and adjustable output voltage options, these LDOs offer flexibility for various applications. Equipped with a delayed ‘power good’ output indicator with an open drain output, they provide an additional level of safety and user feedback regarding power status.
Offering exceptional line and load regulation, the FAN2558/9 LDOs are heightened with thermal shutdown and short circuit protection to ensure device and system longevity. The output stability of these regulators is maintained with a minimum of 1µF low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) capacitance. This feature, along with a bypass capacitor, allows for ultra-low noise operation. The regulators also support fast enable for CDMA applications, offering high ripple rejection. To facilitate usage in digital systems, they have a TTL-level compatible enable input and active output discharge.
Features and Advantages
Some of the prominent features of the FAN2558/9 series include a variety of fixed output voltages such as 1.0V, 1.2V, 1.3V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, 3.5V, 3.6V, and 3.8V. These regulators also provide the flexibility of an adjustable output with the FAN2559ADJ variant. The ground current requirement is minimal at 100µA, contributing to power conservation. Moreover, a power good indicator with an open drain output is integrated, providing reliable system status monitoring.
Package Options
The package options available for these LDOs include the 5-Lead SOT-23, 6-Lead SOT-23, and 2x2mm MLP-6, offering versatility in board designs and space management.
Typical Applications
These LDOs are suitable for a range of applications, including processor power-up sequencing, portable electronic devices like PDAs and cell phones, as well as PCMCIA Vcc and Vpp regulation/switching.
Additional Information
The FAN2558 variant is optimized for fixed output LDO applications with a power good output, while the FAN2558ADJ is tailored for adjustable LDO output requirements. The FAN2559 caters specifically to fixed output LDO applications that require low noise levels.
Lastly, custom output voltage options are also available for tailor-made requirements, demonstrating Fairchild Semiconductor’s commitment to satisfying a wide array of customer needs. The datasheet is dated with revision 1.0.4 as of March 15, 2004, suggesting that the information contained is based on specifications and features present at that time.
