Overview
The ATC 800 B Series by American Technical Ceramics highlights high-performance NPO ceramic multilayer capacitors designed for high RF (Radio Frequency) power applications. These capacitors feature a broad capacitance range from 0.1 pF to 1000 pF, with ultra-low equivalent series resistance (ESR), housed in a rugged Case B size, and are engineered for consistent and reliable operation across VHF to microwave frequencies.
Performance and Reliability
These capacitors offer exceptional performance with a Quality Factor (Q) of 2000 at 1 MHz and an operating temperature range between -55°C to +125°C. They are characterized by an exceptionally low Temperature Coefficient of Capacitance (TCC) at ±0.30 PPM/°C and high insulation resistance, with a minimum value of 10^5 Megohms at +25°C. This ensures minimal retrace, with variations less than the greater of 0.02% or 0.02 pF, and no aging effects or piezoelectric effects to compromise functionality or performance. The devices also exhibit a minimal capacitance drift of ±0.02% or 0.02 pF, whichever is greater.
Applications
Designed for demanding RF power environments, the ATC 800 B Series capacitors are suitable for a variety of applications, such as in high RF power filter networks, combiners, couplers, matching networks, output coupling, antenna coupling, and for DC blocking and bypassing. They are particularly useful in sectors like VHF/UHF HDTV broadcast transmitters, wireless communications, public safety radio, avionics, telecom, WiMAX, microwave communication systems, and satellite systems.
Construction and Environmental Compliance
These capacitors are RoHS compliant and are available with solder plate terminations that can withstand significant tensile force. They have been rigorously tested for environmental resilience, including thermal shock per MIL-STD-202 Method 107, moisture resistance, low voltage humidity, and life testing. Notably, they have been tested for 240 hours minimum in conditions of 85°C with 85% relative humidity, as well as a life test for 2000 hours at 125°C with 200% of rated working voltage DC (WVDC) applied.
Durability
Promoting both long-term reliability and excellent thermal performance, the capacitors pass critical industry-standard tests, including those from EIA-198, MIL-PRF-55681, and MIL-PRF-123. The construction allows for superior heat transfer, making these capacitors particularly suited for high RF power situations.
Voltage Characteristics
The capacitors can endure a Dielectric Withstanding Voltage (DWV) that equals 250% of their rated WVDC for a duration of five seconds. Specific working voltages are outlined in the Capacitance Values Table found on page two of the datasheet.
