Overview
The ATC 700 A Series NPO Porcelain and Ceramic Multilayer Capacitors are designed for a range of RF and microwave applications. The datasheet provides detailed specifications and information on the performance and reliability of these capacitors, which come in a case A size (.055″ x .055″) and have a capacitance range from 0.1 pF to 1000 pF. Known for their low ESR/ESL, zero TCC (Temperature Coefficient of Capacitance), and low noise properties, these capacitors also boast high self-resonance and rugged construction, making them suitable for demanding electronic circuits.
Key Features and Performance
These capacitors excel in quality factor (Q), with Q > 10,000 in the range of 0.1 pF to 100 pF MHz, and Q > 2000 from 110 pF to 1000 pF MHz, indicating minimal energy loss at their resonant frequency. The TCC is exceptionally stable, ranging from 0 +30 PPM/°C over a temperature span of -55°C to +125°C. Capacitors in this series provide an outstanding insulation resistance, with a minimum of 10⁶ Megohms at +25°C and 10⁵ Megohms at +125°C, depending on capacitance values.
Electrical and Environmental Specifications
The working voltage (WVDC) varies—refer to the Capacitance Values Table on page 2 for more information. The dielectric withstanding voltage (DWV) is 250% of rated WVDC for 5 seconds. Importantly, these capacitors are assured to have no aging effects or piezoelectric effects, and exhibit an insignificant capacitance drift of ±(0.02% or 0.02 pF). They are tested to withstand challenging conditions, including thermal shock per MIL-STD-202, Method 107, and moisture resistance per MIL-STD-202, Method 106. Additionally, they are designed to operate within a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C without derating of working voltage.
Reliability and Quality Assurance
The series surpasses the stringent requirements of EIA-198, MIL-PRF-55681, and MIL-PRF-123. Lifetime reliability is showcased by the life test that subjects capacitors to 2000 hours at 125°C. Terminal strength is proven with terminations capable of withstanding a pull of 5 lbs minimum to 10 lbs typical for 5 seconds.
Applications and Circuit Integration
Functional applications include bypass, coupling, tuning, and DC blocking, whereas typical circuit applications entail filters, oscillators, and timing circuits. To facilitate various surface mount integrations, different termination styles are available and detailed on page 3 of the datasheet.
