The Amphenol TW Hybrid D’Sub series is a versatile and economical connector solution derived from military-grade products, offering a mix of signal, power, shielded, high voltage, and fiber optic contacts within a single housing. With 18 variations in contact arrangements, these connectors can be optimized for use in commercial, medical, industrial, and telecom applications where space saving is crucial.

Material and Electrical Specifications

The connector shells are fabricated from steel with tin plating, while the contact materials vary – signal and power contacts utilize machined bronze or brass, and the shielded contacts use similar materials. The insulators are made from high-temperature black thermoplastic. The contacts’ current ratings span between 7.5A to 40A, with voltage ratings of 300 VRMS for signal/power contacts and 150 VRMS for shielded contacts. The connectors also boast a frequency range of 0-1 GHz, with various plating finishes available, including gold and nickel options.

Mechanical and Climatic Properties

Robust and rugged, the series can operate between -35°C to +155°C, handling peaks up to 180°C, and is capable of withstanding damp heat and salt spray tests. The contact retention forces and mating forces vary depending on the presence of dimples and shell sizes. These connectors also offer up to 200 or 500 mating cycles, depending on the classification, and have a blind mating system available upon request. Resistant to extreme thermal processes, including IR and Air convection reflow up to 260°C, these connectors are suitable for assembly involving soldering without compromising integrity.

Design and Compatibility Features

The TW Hybrid series includes various shell sizes and housing arrangements to allow for flexibility in design and application. Specific arrangements range from types like 5W1 to 43W2, ensuring a fit for numerous configurations. Contact plating options include Class I and Class II types, with tin-plated shells and optional dimples, tailored to male and female connectors. The series is available in preloaded configurations with fixed contacts and brackets, aiming to simplify assembly and improve reliability.
