General Description
The 74F125 is an integrated circuit containing four non-inverting buffers/line drivers, each with tri-state outputs. These outputs, denoted as (nY), can be controlled by their corresponding output enable inputs (nOE). When nOE is HIGH, the respective output enters a high-impedance state, effectively disconnecting it from the circuit it may be driving. This feature is commonly used to enable shared data lines or buses where multiple drivers must not interfere with one another.
Features and Benefits
The datasheet lists several features and benefits of the 74F125. Notably, it has high impedance NPN base inputs, which minimizes the current draw from connected circuits—specifically, the inputs only require 20 uA in both HIGH and LOW states. This characteristic reduces the overall load on the input source, making the 74F125 suitable for interfacing with devices that cannot provide high current levels.
Ordering Information
Ordering information is provided in Table 1 of the datasheet. The 74F125 is available in two different package types, each suitable for operation in a temperature range from 0°C to +70°C. The types are as follows:
- Type number N74F125N: This variant is housed in a DIP14 (Dual In-line Package with 14 leads) with a product package version designated as SOT27-1.
- Type number N74F125D: This version comes in a SO14 (Small Outline package with 14 leads, body width 3.9 mm) identified as product package version SOT108-1.
The two package variants of the 74F125 are designed to be utilized in different applications dependent upon the physical design requirements of the electronic device they are integrated into. The DIP14 package is typically used for through-hole PCB designs, whereas the SO14 package can be more suitable for surface-mount PCB designs.
