Overview
This datasheet presents the specifications for Microsemi’s high-power, 50 Watt Zener diodes, which are qualified per MIL-PRF-19500/358 standards. The diodes covered include the 1N3305B through 1N3350B and 1N4549B through 1N4556B series, available in both standard and reverse polarities.
Description and Features
The Zener diodes are designed for voltage regulation across a wide voltage range of 3.9V to 200V. With low thermal resistance, these devices can be operated at 50 Watts, provided that sufficient mounting and heat sinking are in place. They are available in JEDEC registered formats and offer internal solder bond construction. The diodes are hermetically sealed, ensuring robust and reliable operation. For military applications, they can be ordered with JAN, JANTX, and JANTXV qualifications.
Applications and Benefits
These Zener diodes are suitable for voltage regulation across varied operating current and temperature ranges. Voltage tolerances can be customized from the standard ±5% to tolerances as precise as ±1%. Additional features include non-sensitivity to ESD per MIL-STD-750 Method 1020 and inherent radiation hardness as elucidated in Microsemi MicroNote 050.
Maximum Ratings and Mechanical Specifications
Operating temperatures range from -65°C to +175°C, and the diodes can dissipate up to 50 watts at a case temperature (Tc) of less than 75°C, with a power derating of 0.5 W/°C above 75°C. The thermal resistance is specified at a maximum of 2.0°C/W from the junction to the hexagonal base. The diode’s forward voltage is specified at 1.5 Volts when conducting 10A.
Packaging
These Zener diodes are contained within an industry-standard DO-5 (DO-203AB) package which includes a 11/16 inch hexagonal stud with 1/4-28 threads. All external surfaces are corrosion-resistant with terminals suitable for soldering. Each device weighs 15 grams, and installation may utilize optional mounting hardware available from the factory.
