The 3MTM Mini D Ribbon (MDR) Connectors 102 Series are designed as right-angle receptacles with a 0.050″ board mount, through-hole design and are shielded for added signal protection. These connectors are recognized for their reliable repetitive plugging and rugged die-cast metal case construction. They are compatible with surface-mount technology (SMT) and are made with a glass-reinforced polyester (PCT) insulator material that is UL 94V-0 rated, meaning it resists flames. The color of the insulation material is beige.
The connector’s contact material is a copper alloy, and two types of platings are used. Underplating consists of 80 microinches (2.0 micrometers) thick Nickel conforming to QQ-N-290, Class 2 standards. The wiping area is plated with a minimum of 30 microinches (0.76 micrometers) of Gold in accordance with MIL-G-45204, Type II, Grade C standards. Furthermore, solder tail plating specifics can be found in the ordering information. The body of the connector is made out of a Zinc Alloy and is nickel-plated, while the shroud and latch hook are formed from steel—also nickel-plated.
In terms of electrical specifications, these connectors sustain a current rating of 1 ampere and have an insulation resistance greater than 5 x 10^8 ohms at 500 VDC. They are capable of withstanding 500 Vrms for one minute. These components operate within a temperature range of 55°C to +105°C and are rated for reflow soldering processes up to 240-250°C for 10 seconds. For environmental compliance, a RoHS compliant version with a -PC plating suffix is available, adhering to the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment, as specified by Directive 2002/95/EC.
The connectors can be used as a 36 contact connector and are compliant with the IEEE 1284C interface. They are available in contact configurations of 14, 20, 26, 36, 40, 50, 68, 80, and 100. Their design incorporates a screw or ground lock for reliable PCB retention and an interface latch for secure connection stability.
Markings on each connector include the 3M Logo and part number for easy identification. The series has been assessed and registered under UL File No.: E68080.
