Product Overview

The 3M Four-Wall Header 3000 Series Military is a type of connector widely utilized in electronic applications for establishing reliable interconnections. It is designed with multiple features including latch/ejector mechanisms, available in straight and right angle configurations, and comes with various options to enhance its utility and compatibility.

Key Features

The datasheet highlights the header’s compatibility with 3M’s 3518 & N3518 polarizing keys, as well as the availability of optional ejector latches and polarizing posts. The headers are designed with mounting holes to facilitate secure attachment to the circuit board. Additionally, a high temperature insulator option is available, making the series suitable for “no lead” soldering operations and for reflow soldering using “paste in hole” techniques.

Physical Properties

The insulators are made of glass-filled polyester (PBT) with an optional high temperature version using (PCT). Both have a flammability rating of UL 94V-0 and are colored gray for the PBT and black for the PCT version. Contacts are crafted from copper alloy, featuring an underlying nickel plating with a gold-coated wiping area and tin-lead or matte tin solder tails. The connectors bear the 3M logo, a part identification number, and an orientation triangle for proper installation.

Electrical and Environmental Characteristics

The 3M Four-Wall Header has an electrical current rating that varies depending on the number of contacts powered, with a 5.00A rating for a single contact and progressively lower ratings as more contacts are powered. It maintains an insulation resistance greater than 1×109 Ω and can withstand 1,000 Vrms at sea level. When considering environmental and process factors, the series can operate within a temperature range from -55°C to +105°C. The high-temperature PCT insulator version withstands up to 260°C and is categorized under Moisture Sensitivity Level for reflow processing. In contrast, the PBT version is suited for a maximum temperature of 191°C, designed for the solder wave process only.

Certification and Compliance

The product is recognized under UL file number E68080 and adheres to regulatory standards. Details on RoHS compliance can be accessed through 3M’s website, in the Regulatory Information Appendix (RIA).
