Product Overview
The 3M Four-Wall Header datasheet details the specifications for the 3000 Series connectors designed for reliable interconnections in electronic applications. These headers are equipped with features such as latch/ejector mechanisms, polarizing keys, and optional ejector latches. They can be mounted to a board using provided mounting holes and are available with optional polarizing posts. Notably, the headers support high-temperature insulator options that are compatible with “no lead” soldering processes and reflow soldering using “paste in hole” techniques. Moreover, there is an option for the solder tail material.
Physical Characteristics
Constructed from glass-filled polyester materials, either PBT or PCT for the high-temperature option, the insulators meet UL 94V-0 flammability standards. The connectors come in gray or black, corresponding to the chosen insulator material. Copper alloy is used for the contacts, which are nickel-plated, with gold plating over the wiping area. The solder tails are available in tin lead or matte tin. Each header is marked with the 3M logo, a part identification number, and an orientation triangle.
Electrical Properties
The header’s current rating varies depending on the number of contacts powered, with a maximum rating of 5.00 A for a single contact down to 1.75 A when all contacts are powered, considering a maximum temperature rise limit. The headers feature high insulation resistance of over 1×109 Ω at 500 VDC and can withstand 1,000 Vrms at sea level. Operating temperature ranges from -55°C to +105°C, and the high-temp PCT insulator version can withstand up to 260°C according to J-STD-020C.
Environmental and Compliance
These connectors are compliant with environmental standards outlined by the RoHS, as indicated in the Regulatory Information Appendix (RIA) on the 3M website. The high-temperature versions also meet moisture sensitivity level requirements as specified in J-STD-020C.
Additional Information and Support
For detailed product specifications and current derating curves, reference to the appropriate 3M Product Specification is recommended. UL File No. E68080 denotes the recognized safety standard for this series of headers.
