Propeller Shaft and Universal Joints Overhaul
This section provides instructions for overhauling the propeller shaft and universal joints on Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T Series vehicles.
The process involves disconnecting the battery, releasing the handbrake, and removing various components to access the propeller shaft and universal joints.
Important Notes
When dismantling the propeller shaft, it is essential to rebalance the shaft after reassembly, as failure to do so can cause vibration and damage to the vehicle.
Hardy Spicer joints must be dynamically balanced to within 0.25 oz. in. (18,00 gm.cm) at 3,000 rpm, and shafts with the Detroit joint at the forward end should be balanced to within 0.25 oz. in. (18,00 gm.cm) at 2,000 rpm.
Fully balanced assemblies can be obtained as Service Exchange Units if balancing facilities are not available.
