Engine Overview
The engine is an 8-cylinder, 4-stroke, 90° Vee configuration, cooled by an approved anti-freeze mixture.
There are two basic engine types: short stroke and long stroke, identifiable by the car serial number or engine serial number.
Engine Components
The engine features aluminium alloy cylinder heads, phosphor bronze exhaust valve guides, and austenitic steel valves with stellite tips.
The crankshaft is forged from chrome molybdenum steel, nitride hardened, and dynamically balanced.
The engine is lubricated by oil from the sump, circulated by a gear-driven pump.
Engine Removal and Fitting
Before attempting engine removal, reference should be made to Chapter G Special Precautions.
The engine can be removed through the bonnet aperture or by removing the sub-frame from underneath the car.
