The Lotus Evora is a new mid-engine 2+2 sports car that makes its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Design
The Evora’s sleek and athletic shape is designed in-house by Lotus Design and features fluid forms and crisp surfaces to communicate velocity, agility, and sophistication.
The design language is a perfect balance between form and function, and the Evora successfully continues this heritage.
Interior
The interior reflects the exterior design language, with simple, fluid surfaces, soft forms, and crisp feature lines wrapping around the cabin to create a contemporary but luxurious ambience.
The cabin features premium quality materials and finishes, including precision engineered metal inserts, quality edge-lit switches, and soft hand-stitched leather surfaces.
Technology
The Evora features high-tech treats, including a newly developed Alpine multi-media system with a 7-inch touch-screen, Bluetooth hands-free telephone, and iPod connectivity.
The system also includes advanced audio, satellite navigation, video, and a removable satellite navigation element.
Safety
The Evora features a bonded extruded aluminium chassis tub with incredible inherent strength, particularly in regard to side impacts.
The car also includes deformable sacrificial aluminium front and steel rear subframe modules, anti-lock brakes, and Lotus Traction Control (LTC), which enables less skilled drivers to consistently exploit the braking and acceleration capabilities of the car.
Chassis
The Evora’s chassis is an evolution of the Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA) from the Lotus APX concept vehicle and allows for the development of a range of vehicles up to a gross vehicle weight approaching 4,200 Ibs.
The low volume VVA architecture has been designed to be more applicable to mid-volume vehicles by utilizing Lotus’ low capital investment manufacturing processes.
Key Features
The Evora features a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 276 hp, a kerb weight of 2,976 Ibs (prototype weight), and a 5.7 cubic foot trunk with a fresh air cooling system.
The car also includes a bespoke air-conditioning system, Lotus traction control, and onboard tire pressure monitoring.
