About the Bellanca Super Viking

The Bellanca Super Viking is a historic aircraft with a rich history, dating back to the 1960s. The company, Bellanca, was purchased by Downer, which aimed to produce a tricycle version of their Cruiseair model 14. The resulting aircraft, the Bellanca Super Viking, featured a large, raked rudder that replaced the traditional tripple rudder system.

The name “Viking” was chosen due to the high number of people with Scandinavian descent in Minnesota, where the aircraft was developed.

Key Features

The Bellanca Super Viking is powered by a Continental engine, starting with the model I0-520 and later upgrading to the I0-540, which became the standard powerplant for the Viking series.

The aircraft features a welded steel fuselage covered with classic aircraft fabric and wooden-skinned wings, which provided a smooth finish with no rivets or ribbing edges, giving the Viking a superior aerodynamic shape.
