Introduction to the 2002 Ford Explorer
Ford has redesigned the Explorer for 2002, providing higher ground clearance, more generous angles of approach and departure, and a lower step-in height for greater ease of use. The optional third-row seat folds right into the floor, making it easy to load cargo and passengers.
Exterior Features
The Explorer has several exterior features that improve its usability. These include lowered step-in height, larger door mirrors, early light security approach lamps, and a lowered rear lift-over height for easier loading.
Interior Features
The interior of the Explorer has also been redesigned to provide more convenience and useable room. This includes storage compartments throughout, an optional third-row seat, and a new 40/20/40 middle seat that folds up for easy access and folds down to load gear. The independent rear suspension has allowed for a lower rear floor, providing more interior space.
Additional Features
The Explorer also features a stiffer bodyshell with a fully boxed frame, designed for quieter operation and a more soothing ride. Additional features include the Cargo Organizer accessory, which provides a removable and adjustable compartment divider for organizing cargo.
