Lubrication System Overview
The Rolls-Royce manual discusses the lubrication system used in various models, including the Silver Cloud, Silver Cloud II, and Phantom Bentley S1, Bentley S2, and Bentley Continental S2.
Early Type One-Shot Lubrication System
The early type one-shot lubrication system used grease lubrication for the track rod ends only, with oil lubrication for the front suspension and steering joints.
Late Type One-Shot Lubrication System
The late type one-shot lubrication system introduced grease lubrication for all steering joints, except the centre steering lever pivot points.
Centralised Chassis Lubrication System
The Centralised Chassis Lubrication System uses a foot-operated pump and combined pressure on the foot pedal raises the piston oil reservoir and supplies oil through brass tubing to the front chassis lubrication points.
The system is designed to ensure correct lubrication at each bearing point and oil leakage from the points is desirable but excessive leakage should be rectified.
