History of Rolls-Royce
The company was established in March 1906, founded by Charles Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce, who met in May 1904 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
In 1907, the 40/50 hp Silver Ghost was introduced, which completed a London to Edinburgh run of 14,371 miles in top gear.
Milestones
Notable events include the introduction of the Spirit of Ecstasy in 1911, designed by sculptor Charles Sykes, and the acquisition of Bentley Motors in 1931.
The company experienced significant growth, with the opening of a manufacturing plant in Springfield, Mass, USA in 1921, and the introduction of new models such as the Phantom II in 1929 and the Wraith in 1938.
