System Overview
The 8HPGSAX 8-gear automatic transmission is designed for vehicles with longitudinal engines and all-wheel drive.
It is a further development of the Audi AL552 (8HP6SA) transmission, with a new gear wheel set concept that minimizes drag losses and increases transmission efficiency.
System Function
The transmission features a wet multi-disc clutch actuated by a ball ramp system and an electric actuator with an integrated control unit.
The clutch operates in continuous slip and has a capacity of 1200 Nm ±10% in continuous operation, with short-term peak torques of 1400 Nm possible.
The transmission consists of 5 switching elements, including 3 revolving clutches and 2 fixed brakes, which reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
