Introduction
The Vanquish, a semi-automatic six-speed transmission car, has been modified by Aston Workshop to have a traditional manual transmission.
This modification was done to make the car more of a traditional sports car, giving the driver better control over the V12’s power.
The Original Transmission
The original transmission was chosen by Aston Martin’s then chairman, Bob Dover, to make the car more advanced than its siblings.
The transmission was a Tremec T56 six-speed manual, but with paddle shifters instead of a traditional gearlever.
The Modification
Aston Workshop developed a manual transmission modification, using a T56 gearbox and a master and slave cylinder from a V8 Vantage.
The team worked with a software specialist to develop a new TCU with a purpose-made program to make the ECU accept the mechanical modifications.
The modification took several months of fine-tuning to complete.
