The Lotus Elan Super Safety was introduced in 1967 as a stopgap model between the Series 3 and Series 4, primarily for the North American market.

The Super Safety had several distinguishing features, including:

- Bolt-on wheels and revised three-eared spinner
- Federal headlamp assembly with sealed beam headlight units
- Squared-off electric windscreen washer bottle and exclusive wiper motor, arms, and blades
- Dual circuit braking system with revised Girling master cylinder and Sovy device
- Fixed seat belt and low-back seats with perforated material
Production and Sales
The Super Safety was produced from November 1967 to June 1968, with a total of 495 cars made. Some cars were sold into the domestic UK market, but most were exported to North America.
