Introduction
The Lotus Twin Cam engine was a successful road and race unit, conceived by Colin Chapman.
Engine Types
There were 28 engine types produced by Lotus, including those fitted to Elans, +2s, Lotus Cortinas, Escorts, and Europas.
The table lists the engine types, including the Elan Type, carburettor type, BHP, camshaft type, Lotus part number, market, dates, and cam cover colour.
Key Features
The ‘Die Cast’ head was fitted from 1962 to about July 1966, and the ‘Sand Cast’ head was fitted from about July 1966 onwards.
The change from a four bolt to a six bolt head occurred around April 1967.
The ‘Lotus’ script on the cam cover was changed to ‘Lotus’ on the front of the cam cover around July 1967.
The oil filler cap was changed from the round type to the 3 eared type around this time.
