GM Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) Relearn Procedures
This manual provides relearn procedures for GM vehicles produced after 1995 with Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) systems.
Types of VTD Systems:
Three types of VTD systems require specific relearn procedures:
- Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS)
- Passkey
- Passkey II (Resistive Chip Ignition Key)
- Passlock (Coded Lock Cylinder)
- Passkey III (Transponder Ignition Key)
Relearn Procedures:
Each system has a unique relearn procedure that must be completed before the engine starts or even cranks.
Procedures include:
- Inserting the ignition key and turning it to the ON position
- Waiting for a specified time period
- Turning the ignition switch to the OFF position
- Repeating the process for a specified number of cycles
