Introduction
This manual outlines the process for upgrading OnStar cellular communication systems in General Motors vehicles from 2000 to 2015 models.
Background
Canadian wireless service providers are decommissioning their 2G CDMA networks, requiring an upgrade to OnStar systems to ensure continued service.
Upgrade Process
Customers will receive a letter from OnStar with instructions for the upgrade process. The upgrade involves hardware installation and software calibrations.
Dealers will receive upgrade kits for affected vehicles, and technicians will install and program the modules using the Service Programming System (SPS) available on TISZWEB.
Important Guidelines
Customers must accept OnStar’s “User Terms, Privacy Statement and Software Terms” to receive the hardware upgrade.
Some customers may be required to purchase a 1-year OnStar Service Plan.
Hardware upgrades are VIN-specific and must be installed on the correct vehicle.
