The following steps are to be taken to address the recall of certain 2009-2012 model year vehicles. The recall is for rear axle pinion nuts that may loosen due to undersized pinion shaft splines, which could cause the rear axle to seize or the driveshaft to separate, resulting in a loss of motive power and potentially a crash without warning.
Note: This recall does not apply to vehicles involved in Safety Recall M34.
The recall affects the following vehicles:
Models:
- 2009-2012 RAM Truck (1500 series)
- 2009-2012 Dodge Dakota
- 2009-2012 Dodge Durango (HG) Chrysler Aspen
The affected vehicles have a 9.25 rear axle (sales code DRB) or a C235 rear axle (sales code DRN). Dealers should inspect the rear axle pinion nut and recondition any found to be loose or seized. Additional repairs may be necessary for certain vehicles.
