Audi 5.2L V10 FSI Engine Design and Function
This self-study program provides introductory information on the design and function of the 5.2L V10 FSI engine, which is used in the Audi S6 and S8 models. The combination of 10 cylinders and FSI technology gives Audi a unique position in the market.
The engine features a 908 V angle with 90 mm between cylinder centers, similar in design to the Lamborghini V10 engine. However, the Audi version has increased bore, stroke, and displacement.
Advantages over a V8 engine
While a 5-liter V8 engine would be more compact, the pistons and connecting rods would also need to be heavier, limiting the engine’s sporty characteristics. The V10 engine, on the other hand, allows for lighter pistons and connecting rods, resulting in a more energetic feel.
