Recall Overview
The recall affects certain Acura models, including the 2005-2016 Multi-Model Driver’s Airbag Inflator.
The recall was initiated due to the potential risk of the driver’s airbag inflator producing excessive internal pressure during deployment, causing metal fragments to pass through the airbag cushion material and potentially causing injury or fatality to vehicle occupants.
American Honda has not received any reports of Takata PSDI-5 inflator ruptures in the market in Honda or Acura vehicles worldwide.
Repair Information
The recall requires replacement of the driver’s airbag inflator with a different inflator type.
Replacement parts are currently not available, but American Honda expects to receive the first shipment of parts in early April, with repairs expected to begin in May.
Owner Notification and Vehicle Disposal
Initial notifications will be mailed to customers beginning March 14, 2016, with a completion date by March 25, 2016.
Customers will be notified by mail again when parts become available, and are encouraged to visit an official Acura dealer for repair at that time.
Affected vehicles are on stop sale and cannot be sold until the inflator is repaired with a counter-measured part.
