Brake Rotor Issues
The Technical Service Bulletin 2015173/31 provides information on brake rotor vibration or pulsation concerns and their diagnosis and repair. The bulletin specifies that brake rotor machining is allowed between 6 and 12 months or 6,000 and 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the warranty in-service date.
Procedures for Repair
The bulletin outlines the following procedures for repairing brake rotor issues:
- Remove wheels and separate brake calipers from the carrier as outlined in Repair Manual Group 44 in Elsa.
- Inspect the brake rotor friction surfaces on both sides of the brake rotor for severe discoloration (bluing), high heat surface damage (raised hard spots), and visible cracks.
Brake rotors showing any of these conditions are NOT serviceable and must be replaced in accordance with the Volkswagen Warranty Policy and Procedure Manual.
Additional Information
The bulletin also provides information on the new Brake Diagnostic Worksheet, which can be found in the Warranty Heading. The worksheet is intended to support a positive customer experience, improve quality efforts, and reduce repeat repairs.
