Summary

This service information bulletin addresses a check control message issue (CCM-ID 953) in certain 2021 BMW models, including the 2 Series Gran Coupe, M5 Sedan, M8 Convertible, and more.

The issue may cause a “Safe share detected” message to appear, accompanied by power reduction, audio system volume restriction, and other symptoms.

The cause is a software error in the Body Domain Controller (BDC), which can be resolved by programming the vehicle using ISTA 4.30.2x or higher.

Temporary Solution

The customer can temporarily resolve the issue by deactivating the BMW Key Card or using a radio remote control or BMW Display Key for vehicle access.

The repair is covered under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks or the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program.
