Summary of the Recall

The 2019 Subaru Ascent is being recalled due to a potential issue with the CVT chain slip. The transmission hydraulic sensor harness was made with dissimilar materials, which may cause an oxide film to form, potentially leading to incorrect measurements of hydraulic pressure.

Certain affected vehicles may experience irregular noise and/or vibration while driving, and/or warning lamp illumination. If the condition is not addressed, it may result in loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Description of the Remedy

Subaru retailers will reprogram the TCU. If certain DTCs are present, the hydraulic sensor harness will be replaced with an updated part. In some cases, the transmission assembly may need to be replaced.

Owner Notification

Subaru will notify potentially affected vehicle owners by first class mail within 60 days. Owners with a valid email address on file with Subaru will also be notified by email.

Service Procedure

The service procedure involves performing a DTC check, stall test and test drive, and reprogramming the TCM. In some cases, the CVT assembly or harness may need to be replaced.

It is important for owners to keep their vehicles in good condition by following the recommended maintenance schedule and addressing any issues promptly. If you have any concerns or questions, please consult your Subaru manual or contact your local Subaru dealership.
