Introduction

The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) systems are designed to assist with everyday driving, informing the driver of vehicles that may not be visible in their line of sight.

How it Works

The BSM uses radar sensors to detect vehicles in the blind spot, illuminating a warning indicator on the appropriate sideview mirror. If a turn signal is activated despite this visual alert, the mirror indicator will flash.

The RCTA system is designed to automatically activate when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse, using the BSM’s radar sensors to detect rear cross traffic approaching from either side of the vehicle.

Enabling and Disabling

In most Toyota vehicles, the BSM w/RCTA systems can be enabled and disabled through the vehicle’s Multi-Information Display (MID).

Some vehicles may use a dedicated physical button on the dash to enable and disable the BSM system.
