Cylinder Head Replacement Procedure
This bulletin provides the procedure to replace the engine cylinder head on some 2017-2019MY Niro (DE HEVIPHEV) vehicles produced from January 1, 2016 through November 13, 2018.
The replacement is necessary due to possible lean misfire and engine hesitation issues between 24-37 MPH.
Inspection Procedure:
Verify the vehicle and cylinder head production dates to determine if replacement is necessary.
Follow the inspection instructions to check the production date range of the vehicle and the cylinder head.
Replacement Steps:
Replace the cylinder head by referring to the “Engine Mechanical System Cylinder Head Assembly Cylinder Head Repair procedures” in the applicable Shop Manual chapter on KGIS.
Remove the air cleaner assembly, engine room under cover, and drain the engine coolant and inverter coolant.
Install the new cylinder head and related parts in the reverse order of removal.
Replace the high-pressure fuel pipe assembly with a new part.
Clear DTC(s) and verify vehicle operates normally using KDS.
